I don't like being the oldest. Laurie's still the oldest but he wasn't at the funeral. I was. Dad told me to set the example. I didn't want to. I didn't want to see anyone else in Benjy's bed, either, but they are. Paul and Kit need the beds and they are available, but it doesn't feel right. It's like he's still out there and the army sent home a really large doll and we're going to see him when this war ends, ...but we're not.
